Out of home dining hits two year high
Foodservice
AUSTRALIAN Pork Limited’s July out-of- home dining research has seen pork reach a new high, with the pro- portion of those who ate pork at home lifted to its highest point in the past two years.
This has resulted in the conversion rate of pork being on the menu to having consumer-eaten pork strengthened in July to sit at 20 percent.
Following on from the success of this campaign, this month APL launched the spring summer cam- paign, with a series of recipes developed from the data insights that APL commissioned.
and dinners having re- mained at a similar level. Breaking this down by state, the total eat-out rate decreased in Vic- toria and NSW for July
This demonstrates that when pork is on menu, for two out of three cases in out-of-home venues, the consumer increas- ingly chooses it.

This is of little surprise, given that fresh pork con- sumption has increased by more than 35 percent comparing 2021-22 to 2011-12 financial years – proving that consumers simply can’t get enough pork on their forks.
We know that grilled and roasted meat dishes remain among the top five pork meals in out-of- home venues, so as part of our campaign, we have included modern ways for chefs to incorporate this into their menu.
and Western Australia have seen upticks, and Queensland remains rel- atively consistent.
Over autumn and winter, pork was sup- ported in-market by APL’s autumn winter campaign via foodser- vice trade media.
Utilising seasonal pro- duce with recipes such as grilled pork cutlets with peaches, pork souvlaki, grilled pork burger with mushrooms and beer bat- tered onion rings, as well as a katsu sandwich and two on-trend salads.
In terms of per person spend on foodservice meals, the average spend has continued to trend downwards since April 2022, driven by notable decreases in dinnertime spend.
Media was focused on celebrating the value that pork delivers to chefs and their bottom line.
Meanwhile, lunch spend has remained on par with May and June.
This campaign in- cluded a set of cost-effec- tive on-trend recipes that APL determined from data insights and cost per plate for each meal.
Overall, the foodser- vice landscape remains dynamic, however the total out-of-home rate for July has remained con- sistent – last month at 28 percent – with lunches

PIGGERY operators are trending towards a better understanding of the need to differentiate be- tween submersibles and surface-mounted self- priming trash pumps.
and therefore being visu- ally aware of any problem areas, such as leaking seals or similar.”
pump will be expelled on start up.
Aussie Pumps GMP, and even Gorman-Rupp, are proving every day that there is a definite place in livestock effluent for the self-priming advantage.
Submersibles undoubt- edly have their place, particularly where four or six pole versions can be installed to move heavy duty sand and slurry mixtures from sediment pits.
“A huge advantage is the non-clog open im- peller design that enables solids in suspension to be passed without issue.”
The vacuum created inside the pump will open the check valve and presto, the liquid is drawn up through the suction tube.
“Our product range goes all the way up to big 8” pumps that can handle up to 9000LPM,” Mr El- lahi said.
On the other hand, surface-mounted self- priming trash pumps pro- vide far more conveni- ence and performance than the traditional light effluent submersible op- tions.
The check valve on the suction port is the only moving component that enables the pump to prime.
The front opening port on the Aussie GMP product range also is a blessing for piggery op- erators.
“That can be an ad- vantage if the liquid is particularly corrosive or abrasive.”
Aussie Pumps is finding that the attraction of self- primers for piggery appli- cation is growing rapidly.
All the operator has to do is fill the pump with liquid – or not if the liquid is being retained in the bowl after the last pump out – and start the motor.
Being able to clear a choke without undoing pipework – either suction or discharge – makes the clean-out function very easy.
The Aussie GMP self- primers are also available up to 4” sizes, in all-cast 316 stainless steel.
Aussie Pumps Mood Ellahi said, “Operators seem to like being able to see the pump operating,

There is no need to pull the pump out of the pit, whether it’s an electro submersible or long- column sump pump de- sign.
These pumps – called the BXRA series – will handle flows up to 2300LPM and provide heads as high as 30m. New introductions
Service technicians like the way Aussie self- primers prime easily, simply by making sure the pump body is full of liquid.
It’s simple and there is no mystery about what may or may not be hap- pening below the surface of the tank.
“These giant cast-iron monsters are highly ef- ficient and feature the op- tion of 316 stainless-steel impellers.
The Aussie GMP 3” cast-iron portable Honda powered pumps can be indispensa- ble in a flood emergency or electrical failure.

The success of the product range for pork producers, and informa- tion being fed back to Aussie Pumps about these applications, has led to the introduction of higher-head versions.
“Last year, we intro- duced a 3” x 3” 22kW pump that will reach a 78m head and produce a maximum flow of 1250LPM,” Mr Ellahi said.
“That pump is capable of pumping effluent a long way over horizontal distances.”
